Olive Tree Cancer Care Support Charity Crawley Gatwick West Sussex Surrey
  Art Therapy

We offer Art Therapy as part of the Centre’s holistic approach to cancer care.

What is Art Therapy?
Art therapy has been in development for over 50 years. In the UK Adrian Hill and Edward Adamson pioneered this work in hospitals with soldiers recovering from experiences received during the Second World War. Since then Art therapy has been used clinically in many areas with adults and children.

Art therapy allows the communication of internal emotional feelings, which are sometimes difficult to speak about, in a non verbal way.

The making of art is, by its very nature, healing; personal problems to personal potential can be explored through the structure of art therapy.

What should I expect?
Each session will enable you to get in touch with your creativity and to learn to express your feelings through the making of images. It will be a practical and enjoyable experience, using a variety of art materials. You will have the opportunity to share any thoughts that arise whilst you paint and there will always be time for reflection and further discussion.

At the Olive Tree we offer one to one sessions with our art therapist.

How can you access the service?
Art therapy appointments are booked via the Centre Manager. The Centre provides all the materials required
