We offer Reiki to clients as part of the Centre’s holistic approach to care. All the
Reiki practitioners are qualified members of a professional body.
What is Reiki?
Reiki is a method of healing that was rediscovered in Japan in the 1800's.
The basis of this system of healing, is the concept that an energy flow exists
in living beings which supports life, by helping to maintain balance.
This energy is know as Ki. When Ki is diminished ill health can arise. The other important
concept is that Ki can be channelled by a Reiki practitioner from its original source and
passed onto another person.
The universal original source is known as Rei, hence the name Reiki.
There are no religious associations within Reiki and therefore no belief system is necessary
to receive this method of healing
How can Reiki help?
Reiki is gentle, non-obtrusive and aims to bring about balance in mind, body and spirit
to improve well being. It can:
- Promote relaxation
- Improve sleep pattern
- Reduce tension, stress & anxiety
- Contribute to a sense of well being
- Aid symptom relief
How will Reiki make me feel?
A Reiki treatment involves the practitioner placing his / her hands on or just above
certain points on the body. You remain fully clothed and will be asked to lie on the couch.
If lying is uncomfortable for you, you may receive treatment whilst seated.
You can expect to experience feelings of deep relaxation during and following your treatment.
The treatment will last for about 40 minutes.
Your practitioner may recommend that you drink plenty of water and rest following your
treatment. We would suggest that you remain at the centre until you are sure that you
are able to travel home.
Reiki may be used successfully in conjunction with any other therapy.
How many sessions can I have?
Prior to using the complimentary therapies and treatments at the Olive Tree, you will meet
with the Centre Manager to discuss the different therapies on offer and agree those which
would best support your needs.
Members are entitled to 4 free sessions of any therapy they choose or a combination of therapies.
Following this we would request that circumstances allowing, members make a minimum donation
of £5.00 per session
Where will the therapy take place?
All therapy sessions take place in our dedicated therapy room at the centre.
We have an electric couch which can be lowered to assist those with mobility difficulties.
It can also be adjusted to a sitting or semi sitting position for those who prefer not to lie flat.
Please discuss this with your therapist.
How do I book a therapy session?
All sessions are booked through the manager or an appointed volunteer.
You can book in person, by telephone or by e-mail.
