The Cancer and Working Project Team Members
Anne
Sabine - Project Manager
Anne holds a Masters in Business Administration (MBA), a
Diploma in Careers Guidance, a Certificate in Education
(Qualified Teacher Status) and is an Associate of the
Chartered Institute of Personnel Development (CIPD). She is
the director of Orbitals Ltd and Anne L. Sabine Associates:
consultancies specialising in personal and organisational
development and the project management of learning and
development and career projects. Anne is also a trainer and
coach.
Her consultancies have undertaken a variety of contracts
within the public and voluntary sectors with particular
focus on various aspects of career progression. Anne is
passionate about the importance of managers developing their
staff – leading to higher standards of performance and
productivity.
Prior to running her own businesses, Anne worked in the NHS
and careers service in a variety of senior management roles
and also has experience in the private sector and education.
Anne has enjoyed working with Macmillan on other projects
and is enthusiastic about the opportunity to help people
with their careers and jobs and, simultaneously, to assist
managers support their staff and develop their own skills.
Her role is to ensure that the project runs successfully,
from conception to closure, that objectives are met and to
be the main communicator between Macmillan and the project.
In addition she will be working closely with Mark and Simon
to advise and assist employers and will utilise her previous
NHS experience to liaise with NHS professionals and
clinicians.
Mark
Stevens - Case Manager
Mark relocated to London from New York City (via Chicago) 23
years ago. He holds an MBA in Marketing and Organisational
Psychology and is an ICF qualified Executive, Business and
Life Coach who specialises in Career and Business
Development, Personal Development, Team Building,
Facilitation and Communications and Media Training.
He also has extensive experience gained in over 20 years as
a Strategic Marketing and Communications Consultant with a
professional specialisation, as well as a strong personal
interest, in national and local politics on both sides of
the Atlantic.
As the Case Manager of the Cancer and Working Project, Mark
will provide coaching and training for people affected by
cancer who want to return to work. He will also be designing
and presenting workshops for both employees and employers,
developing a network of employers, GPs, cancer nurse
specialists and Jobcentre personnel in the Gatwick Triangle,
advising employers on how to adapt existing employee
policies to meet the needs of staff affected by cancer and
working closely with Marilyn Drury to ensure that everyone
referred to the project receives appropriate and effective
support.
Marilyn Drury - Olive Tree Information and Support
Centre Manager
Originally a research Chemist, Marilyn reinvented herself
following a career break as an education department
administrator.
Thus began a long and enjoyable career in Adult and
Community Education. Starting in administration and support
management with Surrey County Council, and then in
curriculum management for East Surrey College, Marilyn
completed her time as a member of the Senior Management team
in 2004.
Following six months in premature retirement, she accepted
the post of Macmillan Information and Support Centre
Manager, based at The Olive Tree, in May 2005.
Marilyn was instrumental in arranging for the Cancer and
Working pilot programme to be based at The Olive Tree. The
project is a natural progression from the services already
being offered and she will continue to provide information
and support to cancer patients and their families who
contact the Centre.
Marilyn and Mark Stevens will work closely together to
ensure that everyone referred to the project receives
appropriate and effective support.
Simon
Drury - Lead Coach
With a degree in ceramics in 1975, Simon moved into
education and after a few years teaching in the mainstream
sector, started working in special needs.
After 11 years he decided to move into the business world to
become a trainer/coach. Following a 14 year career in
financial services, during which time he was a sales manager
and trainer, Simon set up his own business in January 2003.
Whilst in financial services he gained an honours degree in
psychology, through the Open University, which was the final
piece of the puzzle.
As a business psychologist, coach, trainer and mentor, Simon
now works predominantly in the corporate market focusing on
key areas such as leadership development, change management
and communication. He also works with private clients and
small business owners. Every now and then he organises and
stages live events for the general public in the field of
personal development.
Within the Cancer and Working project he is the lead coach
and will be overseeing the project’s coaching capability. He
will also be working with and through The Gatwick Diamond
Business Association where necessary to help secure an
effective interface with the business community.
Paulina Slater - Project Evaluator
Paulina is a coaching psychologist who works one-to-one and
with groups. She specialises in in-depth work and
experiential learning particularly in the areas of
wellbeing, thriving under pressure, intra and interpersonal
business relationships and team functioning, communications,
managing change well, and leadership development. She has a
professional passion for one-to-one coaching, having had the
privilege to travel alongside many business people in their
professional and personal journeys. She has helped them with
a rich variety of issues from leadership development through
facing and dealing with some inconvenient truths to
achieving heartfelt goals. Her experience spans repeat
business with multi nationals, local authorities and NGOs
and she has worked in the UK, C&EE and South Africa.
In the two year period, 2003/4, Paulina was involved with an
in-depth qualitative research project on stress and burn out
in senior managers in Central and Eastern Europe for
PriceWaterhouseCoopers.
Paulina is the internal Project Evaluator. She is highly
skilled in creating trust so that individuals feel able to
share and be honest and she has a strong background in
building rapport with people from a wide variety of cultural
backgrounds.
She likes to get involved with projects that make a positive
difference and relishes having a part in shaping a project
where she can draw on her preferences to produce work of
depth and substance and work with others in a dynamic team
such as this one.
